May Days

The beautiful spring weather has brought lots of outdoor activities including hiking, bike runs with Morgan as he transitions from balance bike to pedals (the second run went better than the first, but it's going to take some time), and sprinkler fun in the backyard. The boys also finished their swimming lessons and are definitely more comfortable in the water (see Morgan swimming here). We will continue to practice on our own in swimming pools over the summer. We've also had our moments of silliness this month as you can see here and from where I found Morgan after I came back from the garage to take out the recycling one day:

Morgan turns 6!

Nana joined us as we celebrated Morgan's 6th Birthday this past week. We had an art party at Little Stacey Park complete with painting animals on canvas and a rainbow splatter cake. We lucked out with nice weather -- which was necessary to avoid 15 messy kids with paint brushes at our house : ) The kids had fun and also played on the playground while we caught up with friends and ate brunch. After the party, Morgan opened his gifts at home and spent the rest of the day playing with them. It seems like everyone knew Morgan well, because he got lots of gifts having to do with cars and art. Thank you everyone for the generous presents!

We also celebrated an early Mother's Day when I took my mom to Green Pastures for a brunch on Sunday. It was the fanciest brunch I've ever seen, and the venue was a beautiful historic victorian house with lots of peacocks roaming the grounds. We were full for the rest of the day!

Since Morgan's actual birthday was on a Tuesday, we saved a few gifts to open and sang Happy Birthday once again. Dean even got a present for his half birthday! Thanks Lola for the story publishing kit and to Nana for the turtle tooth pillow : ) Can't believe my baby's going to be losing teeth soon!

The boys had a good time with their Nana throughout the week, playing games, kicking the soccer ball in the backyard and hanging out. Nana had fun watching their swimming lessons twice, reading to them and getting showered with affection. Even Morgan warmed up to her right away. It was a great week full of lots of eating (what visit to Texas would be without?) and catching up. We also took the kids to Umlauf Sculpture Garden one day where they made Cinco de Mayo puppets. Thanks Nana for coming to stay with us. The boys miss you already!
