Happy Halloween

The promise of candy brought the boys to the streets of our new neighborhood for some good old fashioned trick or treating. Coincidentally, a very Halloween-like black cat greeted us just as we were getting out of the car. The boys called her Stella and pet her for a few minutes. She was just as friendly and even looked like her, it made me smile. Going door to door was a nice way to get a feel for our new neighborhood and the people there. We even ran into some people we knew, but didn't realize they lived in Bouldin. The kids enjoyed picking candy, knocking on doors and yelling "trick or treat!" and got lots of compliments on their costumes. At the end of the night, Dean finally threw me his hat, saying his head was all sweaty. When we got home, they both dumped out their bags to evaluate their candy. Dean wasn't familiar with them so kept asking me, Mommy what's this one? Mommy, what's this one? I think it'll take us a while to get through this stash.

New digs

10 days and counting! It's looking great and we can't wait to get in. So since we are officially moving into a house, I figured it was about time to update the description of the blog. That, and my mom called me out : )

Festivities galore weekend

Whew, what a weekend. It started Friday night at Boo at the Zoo where we saw bears, tigers, black panthers, farm animals, snakes and tortoises in the setting sun, followed by a haunted train ride. This was our 3rd year in a row and it was still a big hit. Dean peeked over his hands the whole time but then told me at the end it wasn't scary while Morgan was all smiles, but then afterwards told me it was scary. But in a good way. Their costumes were a hit and they got lots of compliments. As an added bonus at the end of the night, all we had to do was take off the hats and the red t-shirt and they were already in their pjs : )

The next morning was a playdate at the Dino Park with Morgan's friend Bodhi from school and his little sister Avery. We had gone over a year ago, so it was like new again and the boys loved finding all the dinosaurs. They are learning dinosaurs in school right now, so Morgan was much more into it this time. The path took us a good hour, then we picnicked by the playground and hung around while the kids all played.

Saturday night was a big Halloween-themed fundraiser at Dean's school owner's home. They had a huge outdoor area with activities. live music and food. Morgan and Dean both experienced their first pony rides! They both loved it and didn't hesitate at all. They were so cute. Then there was a cake walk, my first, where Morgan won a cake! He got to choose from all the ones in the kitchen and walked away with a double chocolate one. He was nice enough to share it with us later.

Sunday morning, we went to a birthday party at Little Stacey park, so after that, we were content to just hang out at the house. It was a whirlwind, but lots of fun!

Barton Hills Farm Fall Harvest & Corn Maze

Linda and I took the boys to Barton Hills Farm this past Sunday for fun and pumpkin picking. Ed had a tennis tournament so couldn't join, but the weather was perfect and we were running out of weekends before Halloween. The boys enjoyed the corn maze, ship wrecked sand pit, tractor pulled barrel train, wooden fort and bouncy pillow - well, Morgan enjoyed bouncing. Dean liked it until he fell down and then couldn't get back up. I finally had to throw off my shoes and go rescue him : ) They each picked a pumpkin which we will try and decorate this coming weekend. The maze was especially great - they gave you a quiz that told you which way to turn depending on your answer. Morgan did most of the navigating and I'd say we were in there a good 20 mins. Not surprisingly, both boys fell asleep on the drive home.
This was our second year here, and it's been fun each time so I think we'll make it a fall tradition : )
